Ready, headlining Salman Khan, which is set to start filming in Sri Lanka faces a south boycott called by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC).
SIFCC has reportedly vowed not to allow films shot in Sri Lanka to be screened in theatres in South India, because of alleged atrocities by Sri Lanka government against its Tamil population.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Salman Khan had convinced Ready producer Bhushan Kumar and director Anees Bazmi to shoot the film in Sri Lanka instead of Mauritius as planned earlier.
Salman Khan's recent visit to Sri Lanka for IIFA 2010 inspired him to promote the island country that is aspiring for peace and prosperity following years of ethnic strife.
Salman plugged Sri Lanka, unmindful of boycott threats by Tamil activists in India, after being impressed by locales and hospitality of the island country during his recent visit to the country for IIFA 2010.
Ready cast and crew will be in Sri Lanka starting June 18 for a 40 day schedule. Filming will be done in two luxury resorts.
Aggravated by the press reports, SIFCC officials are now reportedly planning to verify them with Salman before taking any action.
On an aside, SIFCC has clarified that it will not call for a boycott of films whose stars attended the IIFA 2010 in Sri Lanka. The clarification places films like Milenge Milenge, Rakta Charitra and Raavan off the hook, as their stars Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Nikhil Dwivedi and Govinda were at the event.
